INTRODUCTION TO PENTECOSTALISM

WITH DR. VAN JOHNSON

Online

Analyze the nature and the impact of the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement. The lectures, while including a section on the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (and other Canadian Pentecostal denominations), examine the global impact of this worldwide movement. The movement is traced as to its scope and variety in both Pentecostal and non-Pentecostal circles and analyzed in terms of the factors related to its widespread acceptance.

There will be a particular emphasis on Canadian beginnings of Pentecostalism, which is facilitated by newly published primary source material on the pre-denominational phase.

SPRING 2024

ACTS OF THE APOSTLES • May 13-17, 2024

1 Week Intensive Synchronous Livestream with Dr. Martin Mittelstadt

A study of the book of Acts with a focus on its theology, literary artistry, and depiction of Christian origins. Acts is a pastoral narrative documenting the origin and advancement of the early church. As a story of the emerging Jesus movement, Luke charts the triumphs and tragedies of the first Christians and thereby provides a historical context for our NT. This study will examine the fate of the gospel message from its Jewish origins to Rome. Attention will be given to the role of Acts as part of the NT canon, its role in Christian (and Pentecostal) history, and its significance for contemporary Christians.

SUMMER 2024

PENTECOSTAL SPIRITUALITY • June 10-14, 2024

1 Week Intensive Synchronous Livestream with Dr. Van Johnson

Offers a fresh, constructive and perhaps even controversial interpretation and re-envisioning of the Pentecostal tradition. A study is made of the early years of the Pentecostal movement and the influence of Wesleyan, Holiness and revivalist-restorationist roots in an attempt to interpret the heart of the movement, as well as the way Pentecostal spirituality has developed over the decades that followed. An attempt is made to be both analytical and descriptive, historical and creative, theoretical and practical.
